What Precisely is Shared Hosting?

Owning your own personal site is essential in present-day society. The entrance of the Internet in our daily lives means that, in order for somebody to be seen, or to get his idea noticed, one has to make a web page and get it online. In order to fulfill that, you in fact require 2 things - a web site and a hosting service. Before establishing a web page, however, it's essential to know that there are separate kinds of website hosting services and that not all sites can perform with a randomly selected shared hosting. In order to describe this better, let's start with the chief topic:

What is Hosting?

Hosting, or otherwise famous as 'web hosting', is an appellation that relates to the web hosting server itself, or the web hosting corporation that owns the server. A server is a computer that's connected to the World Wide Web and that's set up to use PHP, MySQL, Perl, and so on, which allows the users to upload their files on the hosting server and to publish them on the Internet. There are 2 principal types of web servers, on the basis of the OS of the web server - Windows and Linux. The two OSs are quite different and, in most cases, not at all consistent with each other. Hence, prior to selecting the proper solution, one should first find out what type of hosting server is required for their site.

If you haven't developed the site yet, then let us have a more comprehensive look at the difference between the 2 varieties and at what their strengths are.

What solution should you select - Windows or Linux?

As mentioned, there are apps, which are solely consistent with a given Operating System. For example, JAVA scripts, .ASP pages, .NET Framework, Adobe ColdFusion are all based on Windows and will not perform on a Linux web server. So, if you would like to create your site utilizing any of the above, you should be looking for a Windows solution. Windows, though, is not open-source software, which means that it provides limited possibilities when it comes to server security and privacy. For this reason, Linux is used by server administrators worldwide and the majority of hosting suppliers use it on their servers. Using Linux, the administrator can set up the server in a completely customizable way, and if the web hosting server is properly set up, it can ensure total safety against computer hackers and malicious software. Furthermore, the customizability of Linux allows for greater software optimization, which brings about better website operation. Thus, if you want maximum security and server operation, then you should construct your website in such a way that it works with a Linux-powered web server. This is not a problematic thing to do, since the most famous Content Management Systems, also famous as CMSs, such as Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, Moodle, etc., are completely compatible with Linux servers and are popular all around the world for being one of the best web apps for creating and handling web sites. Of course, this doesn't suggest that every hosting corporation that's utilizing Linux will have administrators who are capable to appropriately run a Linux hosting server. Picking the right hosting provider is quite hard today, since the majority of them do not have the capacity to employ a good, experienced admin. A Linux web hosting server that hasn't been properly configured can be highly hazardous to your site and personal details. Hence, when picking a web hosting supplier, it's invariably recommendable to opt for an established web hosting supplier that's been in business for at least a few years.

How to spot the right hosting supplier for my site?
