How Shared Hosting Works
If you have made a decision to set up your very own personal site, but are not very certain about what a web site is and are not familiar with the expression "shared hosting", this article is dedicated to clarifying these concepts in plain terms.
What exactly is a web site?
A website is an amalgamation of web pages gathered in a systematic fashion. It has a special website address, also known as a URL (Uniform Resource Locator). A site may include just one web page and sometimes may even include as many as one thousand webpages.
What is a web hosting server?
A web hosting server enables you to upload your site onto it. In some instances, there might be even 1000's of sites on one single hosting server. The web hosting server essentially is a computer with special hardware, which is held in a data center facility with special cooling systems, whose purpose is to safeguard the seamless performance of the machine and all the sites located on it.
To summarize, a web hosting server will be really a launching pad when the time arrives for you to launch your website. It could be any type of website - a business web site consisting of a large number of web pages, or a website, which contains just a few pages and which you have created simply for your mates and relatives.
You've reached a decision about what your website will be, now what?
Once you have decided what kind of web site you would like to launch, the next move is to discover what sort of web hosting service you have to choose for your web endeavor. Essentially, there are two kinds of website hosting services - charge-free website hosting services and professional paid web hosting services. The free-of-cost web hosting solution is commonly used by persons that do not have a business website.
Advantages and disadvantages of the free web hosting solution
You will not receive plenty of options with a charge-free website hosting plan. Features such as bandwidth, memory and web hosting server storage space are limited and inadequate for a complex web shop or a business website, or even for a web site with a lot of graphics. In addition, there are lots of banners placed on your site by the web hosting services provider. These advertisements occupy a lot of space on your website and are rather embarrassing.
Shared website hosting
The paid shared website hosting services are more reliable and offer numerous sophisticated features aside from the high-end hosting server that will host your web site and its data. Nevertheless, it is essential to know which features your web site needs prior to selecting your web hosting plan. You should not rush and end up purchasing something that your web site does not require.
Choose your hosting services provider
It is not tough to find a web hosting vendor. You have to just conduct an online survey in order to find a web hosting supplier that satisfies your web site's needs. Before you make your actual choice, have a glimpse at the specifications of the plans provided by the web hosting companies that have caught your eye. We, for example, are among the premier web hosting service providers on the marketplace nowadays. The large range of web hosting solutions and our prices are what makes us an enthralling option. Still, you must confirm what kind of web hosting service you require and if the price fits your allowance. Moreover, you must not forget to check the hosting supplier's TOS prior to signing up to ensure that your site is not violating them.
Opening a web hosting account
Once you have determined what features are ideal for your web site, the next move is to sign up for an account with the web hosting provider of your preference. You will be bestowed with all the important tools for administering your website files and databases. With us, for example, you will receive a web hosting Control Panel, which comprises domain name, web site, database and email mailbox management sections. You log into the Control Panel using your unique username and password, which grants you secure access to the portion of the hosting server where your website will be hosted.
Uploading your web site
You can either upload your web site via an FTP program or, as is with most hosting vendors, through a web-based tool that is integrated within the web hosting Control Panel. With us, the File Manager is extremely user-friendly and offers features similar to those observed in Windows Explorer, which makes file management exceptionally easy. We offer also a site building tool and a PHP script installer, which you can utilize to create your web site if you have no programming capabilities and are making your first steps in web design. The online website builder, dubbed SiteStudio, will also spare you the time and effort of making a web site on your PC and then uploading it through an FTP software application or the File Manager interface.
